While I understand the whole “see now, buy now” phenomenon as a concept, there’s nothing quite like the slow burn of desire that comes with seeing a piece on the runway and figuring out how exactly you’ll be able to afford and/or procure it six months down the line when it arrives in stores. I know this feeling a little too well, but the last time it struck me hard was during Paris Fashion Week last September when I attended my (very first) Off-White show.
Virgil Abloh is one clever dude, and his “Working Girl”-inspired collection was filled with pieces meant for the modern-day business woman — from blazers fashioned into sexy mini-dresses, to crisp white and pinstriped shirts with artfully structured twists, to boardroom-ready trousers made sporty with racing stripes down the sides. My one must-have accessory, however, was this shoulder bag, decorated with Off-White’s signature diagonal stripes and some cheeky details that anyone who spends a fair amount of time inside an office should appreciate. It has a bulldog clip closure and a bold yellow strap that could be straight out of Home Depot (but if home improvement is not your thing, it also comes with a black version).
Sure, it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to DIY my own version of this bag, but hey — I work hard for my money, and I’d really enjoy dropping a chunk of it on this.
Off-White shoulder bag, $1070, available at Net-A-Porter.
