Sunday, Oct. 11: murder probe launched after man stabbed to death in Sutton Coldfield pub car park

West Midlands Police have launched a murder investigation after a man in his 20s died in the car park of the Beggars Bush pub in the early hours of Sunday. No arrests have been made, and detectives are appealing to partygoers for CCTV and dashcam footage, quoting log 345.

A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 20s was stabbed to death in the car park of the Beggars Bush pub on Chester Road in Sutton Coldfield in the early hours of Sunday, 11 October. Emergency services were called just before 2am and officers found the victim badly stabbed. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene. Police believe he was 25 years old.

No arrests have been made. The inquiry is being run by the force’s Major Crime Unit, and detectives said a large number of people were believed to have been at the pub for an event.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Follows said: “Our investigation is at an early stage, and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends today.” She added: “We will continue to support them as our investigation progresses, and I’d urge anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam or CCTV to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

The force has put out a direct appeal to partygoers. Anyone who was at the pub, or who has information about what happened, is asked to call 101 or use the Live Chat facility on the West Midlands Police website, quoting log number 345. Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage as they work to establish what happened.

With no arrests announced and the appeal aimed squarely at the people who were in the pub rather than the general public, the early investigation is being built on witness evidence from the venue itself, where the crowd was largest.

Greene King, which owns the pub, said it was working closely with the police as the investigation continued and that the pub would remain closed on Sunday. A spokesperson said: “We are supporting our franchisee and their team, who have been shaken by the incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.”

The effect on the area was immediate. Floral tributes were laid outside the pub, a forensic tent was set up at the scene while officers combed the car park for clues, and a nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket on Chester Road was also closed while a police presence remained in the area.
