Ethics Policy

Our standards follow the tradition of the Editors' Code of Practice: accuracy first, the public interest weighed against privacy, and a clear separation between news and opinion.

Accuracy: we verify before we publish, using original sources wherever possible. We do not invent facts, quotes, or events. Statistics are checked against the primary release.

Independence: we answer to no interest but our readers. Our reporters do not take positions on the matters they cover, and advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions.

Accountability: we correct errors promptly and visibly, we label opinion as opinion, and we explain our decisions when asked.
